How to be a local
After much people watching, I've decided to compile a list of ways in which you can blend right in here at Neuchâtel. Oh, and don't get me wrong-- I most definitely do NOT fit it yet!
1. Speak French fluently (totally not there yet)
2. Wear neutral colors - most people traipse around the streets in black, white, brown, grey, etc.
3. Bring a 2-frank coin to the supermarket- you need it in irder to use a shopping cart!
4. Kiss people three times, one on each cheek, to great them (unless you don't know them very well)
5. Don't be obnoxious at restaurants, clubs, bars- basically don't try to get attention in public. Just keep it to yourself.
6. Wear running shoes like adidas, nikes, or other trendy brands, with cute outfits. It's a trend I don't fully understand, but I'm into it!
7. If you're a guy, spend at least an hour doing your hair. Bonus points if you get an effortless looking quoif.
8. Wear tight pants.
9. Roll/cuff the bottom of your pants.
10. Use public transportation.
11. Say bonjour to people you pass on the streets if you make eye contact(scary!)
12. Don't drink and walk or eat and walk. Everyone enjoys slow meals and snacks- people don't really do things on the go
13. Always carry a jacket and/or umbrella with you.
14. Don't make eye contact with people on public transportation
15. Don't be fat (seriously, I haven't seen many fat people's here)
I'll end with a beautiful picture of the sunrise I saw while walking to the bus the other morning!
Wait: Did you say you were up before the sun???
